Welcome

As part of trying to get my head around what Blogging is about and of what value it is I thought I’d better start one. Some starter question:-
  1. How do we ensure that people have the skills and capabilities to be effective users of technology: web, office, workplace, classroom or social?
  2. What are the effective models for the delivery of learning or training?
  3. Is ICT education in schools of sufficient high quality to equip youngsters will the understanding and skills needed in the workplace?
  4. How do you raise awareness of the potential of new technology to business?

  1. 1. ensure the correct subjects are available at an early age in education and in the home. Provide parents with the basic skills should they themselves not have them, so that the parents can feel they can include themselves and learn things together with their children. Without labeling or finger pointing allot of NEET'S these days are from NEET backgrounds, and don't care or won't get involved because they don't understand these things themselves.
    2. Tricky one, there are so many effective methods out there, but vocational and apprenticeship qualifications look to be the front runners at the moment, if only our peers could make their minds up on the framework. It also depends on the type of learner as to the best methods, do they learn best whilst listening or is it hands on learning that rocks their boat. a good teacher or assessor would be able to affirm this with their learner and adapt accordingly
3 To answer this I would have to have experience of other schools and their equipment availability, but my daughter is using ICT at junior school aged 7 and has been doing so since she was 5.
4 I would introduce new technology at business and professional networking levels such as LinkedIn

  2. Thanks for the comments always important to exchange views. So necessary in this age as the pace of change is so rapid. As for what happens with future ICT education it will be interesting what happens after Grove’ announcement at BETT today. I am not hopeful, I do not feel he fully understands the practical side of education.

One thing is fundamental to education: the support of parents and good happy teacher. I am a great believer that if the teacher is having fun teaching and the children are having fun good learning takes place. If the teacher is not having fun but the kids are they are having fun at the teachers expense and no learning is taking place.
